Privacy Policy

The short version
OrthoTune does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Your audio is processed entirely on your device and is never recorded or sent anywhere.
Information we collect
None. OrthoTune does not collect any information about you or your usage of the app. We have no servers, no databases, and no way to receive data from your device.
Audio data
OrthoTune requires microphone access to detect the pitch of your instrument. This audio data is:
- Processed locally on your Mac in real-time
- Never recorded or saved to disk
- Never transmitted over the internet
- Immediately discarded after pitch analysis
We have no ability to access, listen to, or retrieve any audio from your device. The microphone permission is used solely for the core functionality of tuning your instrument.
Analytics & tracking
OrthoTune does not include any analytics, tracking, telemetry, or crash reporting. We don't know:
- How often you use the app
- Which features you use
- What instruments you tune
- When the app crashes (if ever)
- Anything else about your usage
Personal information
We don't collect any personal information. Specifically:
- No account creation is required
- No email addresses are collected
- No names or contact information
- No device identifiers
- No location data
- No advertising identifiers
Third-party services
OrthoTune uses Apple's StoreKit framework for in-app purchases. When you make a purchase:
- The transaction is handled entirely by Apple
- We do not receive or store any payment information
- Apple may collect information according to their privacy policy
We do not use any other third-party services, SDKs, or frameworks that collect data.
Data storage
OrthoTune stores your preferences locally on your device using macOS's standard UserDefaults system. This includes:
- Selected instrument mode
- Selected tuning
- Reference pitch (A4 frequency)
- Audio input device preference
- Global hotkey setting
This data is stored only on your device and never transmitted anywhere. You can reset these preferences by deleting the app.
Data sharing
We do not share any data with third parties because we do not collect any data. There is nothing to share.
Children's privacy
OrthoTune does not collect data from anyone, including children under the age of 13 (or applicable age in your jurisdiction). The app is safe for users of all ages and complies with COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) by virtue of not collecting any data.
International users
OrthoTune processes all data locally on your device. No data crosses borders because no data leaves your device. This makes OrthoTune compliant with GDPR, CCPA, and other privacy regulations by design.
Your rights
Under various privacy laws, you may have rights regarding your personal data. Since OrthoTune does not collect any personal data:
- Right to access: There is no data to access
- Right to deletion: There is no data to delete (uninstalling the app removes local preferences)
- Right to portability: There is no data to export
- Right to opt-out: There is no data collection to opt out of
Changes to this policy
If we ever change this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Given that we don't collect any data, significant changes are unlikely. If we ever decide to collect data in the future (which we have no plans to do), we would update this policy and notify users through an app update.
